Spring Fling! Five Free Cross Stitch Patterns to Celebrate Spring Time.
Hello happy friends! We are kicking off another theme week here on Hancock's House of Happy. The vernal equinox has just past and the days are getting warmer and longer here in the Northern hemisphere. There is also some crazy ass shit going down in the world and I think we all need a bit of a reminder that life finds a way and happy times come around again. Just like Spring.
And nothing expresses that sense of life and renewal than a little fuzzy hatching chicken. This Easter chick cross stitch pattern was inspired by a childhood experience. I was very lucky to be able to travel quite a bit as a kid and one year we went to Mexico at Easter time.
There were staffing problems at our hotel (I think there was a general strike for service workers or something) and we had to find another hotel. The only hotel in all of Acapulco that had rooms (due to the strike) was this really fancy one that the travel insurance got to pay for.
It was called the Acapulco Princess. And in the lobby of the main building was a big giant Easter egg that was actually an incubator full of eggs. And every day I would run down there to see if any of the chicks had hatched.
One day in the middle of our stay there was a BIG hatching and the incubator was full of cute fuzzy little chicks. My seven year old self was living her best life that day I can tell you!
I have no idea why this memory has stuck with me when just about everything else about the long ago vacation is long forgotten. My brain chemistry must have been working at some point in my life. Up until I became a teenager I can remember happy things. After about 14 or 15 it is difficult for me to have clear memories of happy things, but negative experiences are crystal fucking clear.
Apparently this is an evolutionary advantage. Fuck you science.
So I hang on to the happy ones and try to bring them out in my so called art lol. I practice remembering.
Um... anyways I am getting very wordy these days aren't I? This is a great cross stitch for Easter or Spring or even just because you like cute things. You can even leave out the cross stitch Spring and just have that row of chicks hatching. That would make such a cute birth announcement cross stitch!
