Creature Comforts. Five Free Cross Stitch Patterns for Beginners Featuring Some Kind and Unconventional Creatures.
Hello happy friends! If you have been following the facebook page (which I highly recommend) you know that I have been having some health issues that have been hampering my creative process. So I thought it would be kind of nice to take a break from super complicated free cross stitch patterns and make some cross stitch designs that would be good for beginners.
So I came up with the concept of Creature Comforts. Or maybe Comforting Creatures would be more appropriate. Five free cross stitch patterns featuring some unconventional creatures offering kindness and encouragement. These free creature cross stitch patterns are all great for beginners or if you need a quick project for a gift.
As a person who has often been Not OK in her life it has always been important for me to remember that it is totally ok for me not to be ok. That I don't have to conform to some sort of weird, what I like to call, Standard of Happiness.
Our society today really does pressure people not only to be physically perfect but also mentally, emotionally, and psychologically perfect. If you are depressed you are a deviant because LOOK AT ALL OF YOUR PRIVILEGE! HOW CAN YOU BE SAD?!?!?! If you have anxiety you are marginalised because GOING OUT IS AWESOME WHY DON'T YOU LIKE FUN!
Insert your own challenge here. Currently I have more physical challenges which amount to an invisible, and hopefully soon to be sorted out, disability.
So we have all of these messages thrown at us to Cheer Up, Shape Up, Man Up that are such bullshit. It is so far away from what is real and being real is OK!
And here is a little cross stitch bookmark with a cross stitch bee to remind you that if you aren't ok, that is ok and you can talk about it and get help and not be ashamed.
I especially like this mental health cross stitch because it is PERFECT for kids who are learning cross stitch. In fact I think my very first cross stitch when I was 10 years old and spent six weeks in girl guides before washing out was similar to this. But with a more girl guidey message maybe lol.
