Last Minute Minis Week 2! A week of modern cross stitch sampler motifs for last minute gifts.

I was thinking the other day that even though Christmas is the perfect time of year for cross stitch gifts, cross stitch can be difficult to do last minute. This gave me the idea of putting together some fun free cross stitch samplers with mini cross stitch motifs that are small enough for you to stitch up in less than thirty minutes. Each cross stitch motif is tiny and perfect for cards, gift tags, or even just a mini sampler. OR you can stitch the whole cross stitch sampler design.

These small cross stitch patterns are great for a beginner because you can use pretty much any colour of floss you have on hand and some motifs are less than 30 stitches but are detailed enough to be really satisfying little projects.

Last week the samplers and motifs were fairly traditional in cross stitch style. This week there are five new free cross stitch sampler patterns with modern motifs and themes.

Today you have a whole village full of festive houses in cross stitch! Some of these cross stitch houses are sort of traditional while others have a modern suburban feel. Something for everyone! This was inspired by a Christmas tradition on my mom's side of the family where the mantel or a shelf is decked out with tiny houses and lights at Christmas time. I don't have a mantal or shelf space so this is a great design if you need to save space as well! PLUS each tiny cross stitch house would make a super cute decoration or gift tag.

Last Minute Minis! A week of traditional cross stitch sampler motifs for last minute gifts.

I was thinking the other day that even though Christmas is the perfect time of year for cross stitch gifts, cross stitch can be difficult to do last minute. This gave me the idea of putting together some fun free cross stitch samplers with mini cross stitch motifs that are small enough for you to stitch up in less than thirty minutes. I didn't want these free cross stitch samplers to be specifically Christmas-y but today's Nordic style reindeer sampler cross stitch pattern definitely has a festive vibe. These cross stitch deer and reindeer would make terrific little cross stitch gift tags.

I have not included a colour key for this free cross stitch pattern because there are only two colours. And those can be whatever two colours you want! I really like how much variety of form you can get in such small cross stitch motifs. I could have had many more shapes and sizes deer and reindeer and other antlered creatures.

When it comes to designing my free cross stitch patterns, I have this tendency to take an idea to an illogical extreme. Which is what inspired these vector graphic style Christmas cross stitch patterns.

The whole point of vector graphics is that you don't have pixel edges. Cross stitch in the other hand is basically made from pixels. It is that sort of juxtaposition and whether or not I can make it work that gets me feeling creative. I think this idea of vector style cross stitch patterns has a lot more in it that I would like to explore further at another time.

These vector style Christmas tree decorations are very versatile and beginner friendly cross stitch patterns. You can change the colours to match your own Christmas colours.

Maybe you recognize some of the items in today's free cross stitch pattern? They are three cross stitch icons of Portugal!

Portugal has become a second home for me. My parents live there and I visit often. I have come to really love the country.

I know that some people like to put shiny balls and things up for Christmas but my Christmas tree is decorated with things I have collected on my travels or that I have made to represents milestones and memories. Maybe you do the same?

That is what inspired these icons of Portugal cross stitch Christmas tree decorations. There is a cross stitch Rooster of Barcelos (which has an interesting folk tale behind it), a cross stitch Portuguese sardine in the style of blue and white tile, and a cross stitch Lisbon streetcar.

You don't have to turn these cross stitch icons of Portugal into Christmas tree decorations either. They would make cute little gifts on their own in a frame. Although I think a Christmas tree covered in cross stitch sardines in all different colours would be amazing!
