Hello happy friends! I feel I need to explain myself with this theme but I honestly don't know what to say about this week's free cross stitch patterns featuring hip and trendy eye wear. I think these started as an idea to have a whole week of hipster cross stitch patterns but I sort of got a little bit obsessed with spectacles and sunglasses and eyeglasses. There are so many different shapes and colours and the free glasses cross stitch patterns all came out a really nice size for a fairly quick cross stitch gift.

I don't think you need a particular occasion to stitch a fashionable pair of glasses and most of the colours used in these week's free cross stitch patterns can easily be swapped because most of the cross stitch designs are mono-chromatic.

Ok, today's free glasses cross stitch pattern is in more than one colour but you can still change up the two main colours to suit your own tastes!

Today's free cross stitch design of a mason jar is for all you out there who may not be the boss at work but are definitely the boss at home. I was really lucky to have parents who were both at different times.

My mom is the one who taught me to can. She can can anything. And she definitely ran the show at home for a large part of my childhood. Running a home is so much like running a business and she ran all sorts of other things as well, like shopping malls, local government, dance schools, teacher colleges, and art collectives. And she is still canning. It's mostly salsa and relish which my dad loves.

This week of free cross stitch charts has had a lot of emphasis on working women and boss women. Mostly because I am one and my art (if you can call it that) comes out of my experience. Statistics say that there are still far fewer boss women than boss men so I think it is fair to say that women in those positions need a bit more encouragement and recognition of their experiences. Also my audience is mostly female so it makes sense to have cross stitch designs that audience can relate to.

I have wanted to do a mason jar cross stitch design for a while. Mostly because of the Balls joke. I am not sure I am totally happy with this one. I will have to find an excuse to try the motif again.

Today's free cross stitch design features a boss woman mantra and hamsa hand. In fact, this has been my personal mantra for many years: I am a serene and powerful goddess and I will fuck you up with my relentless and impeccable logic.

I've mentioned before that my background is in computer and internet systems architecture and more recently in product management of the same. One thing you need to understand about product managers is that they are pragmatic and logical in the extreme. Their job is to be objective and data driven. Unfortunately, many of the organisations that employ product managers also employ very subjective and emotional people. People you have to have meetings with in order to tell them their idea is crap or that the product they love is being discontinued because no one is buying it.

Always before such encounters I would arm myself with this little bit of zen. Emotional people want to make you doubt yourself and your data because they hate change and get really attached to really dumb things like where the Submit button goes on the screen. So having this little reminder of my abilities before having these conversations helped me take that emotion out of it and have a reasonable conversation in which logic prevailed.

Everyone else would get upset because the evidence was indisputable but I was totally cool with the result. Knowledge might be power but data and logic are the mighty twin sledge hammers of competence.

As an interesting aside, the Hamsa Hand in the background there is a very old symbol of strength and power common to many spiritual paths and almost always understood to be the hand of a powerful woman. Ta-da!

ANYWAYS...

Today's free boss related (and Madmen inspired) cross stitch pattern is St. Peggy Olson. I don't tend to do a lot of cross stitch designs from TV shows but I wanted a cross stitch pattern for boss week that would represent a uniquely feminine struggle: working twice as hard and getting four times as much done ten times better for half the salary and recognition.

My life story. We talk about "male dominated" fields and that those fields are very difficult for women to operate in effectively. Guess what? Most fields are still male dominated. Hooray!

I also don't tend to get political with my cross stitch. I find politics and current affairs important yet depressing. And I have enough of a struggle there. But I know so many women, like Peggy, who are working so hard to get to the top of their profession, often having to fight discrimination and out right misogyny. I was one of them for a while. Taking a break from it at the moment lol.

They aren't famous, they aren't entrepreneurs or running their own businesses, and in many ways are just ordinary people. But they have an ambition to get to the top of their field and be recognised in their industry as being the best at what they do. Peggy puts a face on all of those women who labour in obscurity but achieve so highly and contribute so much while having to navigate what is still a mine field of stereotypes and sexism.

So this image of Peggy comes from that scene in Madmen where she has reached a high point in her career and she is walking into a new agency as a boss. She can work and drink at the same time and she doesn't take any of your crap. Patron saint of boss women.

Every day I'm hustlin'! At least on the side. Maybe you are too? Or perhaps you know someone who is trying to get their super idea off the ground but still needs to slog it out at the day job?

This free side hustle themed cross stitch pattern is for you! I tell you what, there have been days in my life that I just could not wait to get home from work so I could get to work on something I actually cared about! When I first started Hancock's House of Happy Free Cross Stitch ten years ago, I would get up at 4am every day just so I would have time to workout and work on new designs before going to my job.

Come to think of it I still do this! Except for the going to the job part. I am currently unemployed sort of by choice. So your support through Patreon and clicking on these dumb google ads is really important!

This is a great free work related cross stitch pattern for a the side hustle or side hustler in your life.  Perhaps a more intermediate cross stitch design rather than strictly beginner. Man, I swore I would never do confetti. Hahahahahahahahahaha!
