Birds of a Feather. Five free cross stitch patterns inspired by beautiful quilt designs.
Hello happy friends! After a week off due to a dip in mental health (feeling better this week!) I am back with five brand new free cross stitch patterns for you. These are all inspired by some beautiful quilt designs I saw that featured beautiful birds.
I like the geometric nature of these free bird cross stitch patterns which makes them very good beginner cross stitch patterns. I am not a quilter myself per se but I have dabbled in simple blocks for things like coasters and place mats, but the quilts that inspired these cross stitch birds are mini works of art!
The cross stitch bird pattern for today is a cross stitch hummingbird. I have not seen a hummingbird since moving to the UK from Canada nearly 20 years ago. There are no hummingbirds in Europe. I kind of miss them. When I was a kid we would put out those funny red feeders for them.
In Native American culture, hummingbirds are seen as healers and bringers of love, good luck and joy. In Central America, they are a sign of love and will bring love to the person who spots them.
There is a creature in southern Europe call the hummingbird moth which is very like its namesake. Perhaps a bit smaller than the bird but it is a day time moth that has a very long type nose thing and it hovers like a hummingbird and makes a very similar sound with its wings. Sadly it is a rather drab creature being brown and grey but they are still fun to watch.
