Be My Anti-Valentine! A week of snarky sarcastic cross stitch patterns to protest Valentines day.

Hello happy friends! We had a week of short and sweet designs so I thought I would balance that out with a week of sarcastic and bitchy cross stitch patterns for those of us who are, well, a little bit ambivalent about Valentines day. Being a plain Jane and rather odd fish I never got many Valentines as a kid (ugh they made us give them out in school wtf is that about?!) and it never really figured large in my romantic life. My partner and I think it's kinda dumb. If it's your thing then you do you but if you hate it as much as I do then maybe one of this weeks free cross stitch patterns will help you get your frustration out.

I think what rankles for me about Valentines Day is that it pushes this sort of hetero-normative conformity that rewards being in a relationship while marginalising people who may not have such a conventional life. My partner and I have been together for 10 years but our own relationship (which to me is very conventional all things considered) and our domestic arrangements (we do not and have never lived together) get the side eye ALL OF THE TIME. When we have to fill out forms asking for "marital status" we can't put "married" because we aren't, but single doesn't fit either. It's sorta stupid in this day and age.

So today's free Single as Fuck cross stitch pattern is for all who defy (or just are annoyed by) convention and tacky commercialism. Don't get me wrong, I love candy and chocolates and champagne but I really prefer beer and chocolate chip cookies.

This is another great cross stitch pattern for variegated thread. The background colours are all shades of greeny blue but a single skein of multi-coloured floss would work just as well across that area.
